Hybrid Hazel Seedlings 2025-2026 For Sale

Comments on 2025 season

Favorable rainfall amounts and distribution this season ensured decent fill of nuts. Some of the bushes had a slight drop in yield due, in part, to very high production in 2024 – others are due for coppicing (cutting entire plant off just above ground level) to remove less productive stems and recharge vigor. I was very encouraged that in spite of coppicing 2 rows of mature plants last spring (and eliminating them from cropping for this and next year), total yield did not drop significantly as other young plants grew in size and increased productivity.

I’ve decided to no longer sell seed. I cannot predict nor control the germination rate on the seed and do not want customers disappointed by low rates. By growing them myself to seedling stage I take the hit when germination rates are not as high as might be desirable. I recently learned Badgersett considered 65% germination the first year to be average.

Two more rows planted in 2015 are slated for coppicing in spring 2026, including row E, which contains the majority of my star plants. I was told by an expert, though, that yields can increase by 5 fold following coppice so long as they are also fertilized well, so I am expecting great things… in 2 or 3 years. Pictures are in alphanumeric order below, with J036 last and E063 to Left of H090.

I am attaching the plant order form for you to print, complete and return via mail or scan/photograph and send via text or email. Perhaps some day soon I can create an online store but this has worked so far. I am switching to Venmo as a means of payment. It is secure on your end and incurs no fees on my end. Let’s see how this goes – always an adventure!
