My greenhouse is a 26′ x 60′ Solar Star Gothic structure from FarmTek. It is covered with two layers of poly and has drop-down sides and polycarbonate end walls. Due to lack of funds, it’s not entirely functional yet – still lacking heating, irrigation and electrical systems to convert it from cold frame to proper greenhouse. Over the winter of 2012-2013, however, I grew greens in a raised bed heated only by 2 heat lamps of the sort used to keep chicks warm. I’ve been reading up on the works of Eliot Coleman on what more I can do with my minimalist system.

The 2014 season has begun! On Sunday I planted the first of the raised beds with radishes, lettuce, broccoli, kohlrabi, and kale. I’m using a soil heating cable combined with row cover to help the planting through the inevitable cold nights between now and the end of May – our historical frost free date.
