In spite of my resolutions to downsize the flock, I once again have 25 ewes in with the rams in preparation for spring 2026 lambs. I’m running 5 rams – 2 Babydoll – one able to give me black lambs although white, and one white, Noah, returning from successfully siring beautiful lambs last spring. The two Babydoll X Finn rams are: first timer, Sven, providing me with white babies and Oliver, being brown, providing black, brown or white depending on the ewe’s coloration. The final ram is Humphrey, a 100% Finnsheep dude. I wanted new genetics and also new 50% Finn flock members. They were placed in their breeding pens on October 19th, a couple days earlier than usual. I have scheduled a vet to do ultrasounds on November 28th to help me determine who is bred, around what date, and, hopefully, how many are being incubated by each momma. This last bit of information helps me feed them appropriately in the later stages of pregnancy – not fattening them too much nor depriving growing fetuses of nutrients. We could even have lambs arriving in the single digits of March to the Finn crosses.
The flock has been tested and found to be free of OPP (Ovine Progressive Pneumonia). All 100% Babydoll lambs are potentially registerable with NABSSAR. The Finn crosses may be registerable with FBA.
I have listed the breeding pairs below – the rams followed by each of their ladies, oldest to youngest. The information provided in parentheses after each name is their Finn/Babydoll composition. To figure out the lambs’ percentages, average the parent’s percentages. Reservations for lambs can be made at any time – let me know what you are prioritizing in your selections and I will get as close as I can in providing those lambs. Please read the document Reserving a Sheep carefully to know what prices are and what you are agreeing to.
Humphrey (100% Finnsheep)

Humphrey is from Tim Reese’s flock at Gale Woods in Minnetrista, MN. He has maintained his flock in export-worthy shape so I am confident bringing his stock onto my OPP-free farm.
Humphrey was reserved by another farm a while back and has now moved to Iowa to produce pretty lambs down there.
Deone (50% Finn 50% Babydoll – black carrying Brown)

I shear Deone just once a year and she has given me lovely fleeces for sock yarn the last 2 times I have had yarn spun. With her higher Babydoll composition, her lambs bulk up faster than the those with higher Finn percentages. She’s a great mom often lambing late. Ultrasound will tell…
Unless ultrasound is lying – no lambs yet. Could be quite late. Update… expecting twins in first week of JUNE!
Marla (75% Finn 25% Babydoll )

Marla has had both black and white lambs so either color can be expected in this match. Hers will be the highest % Finn of any of the 2026 lamb crop.
She may have been bred the first possible day meaning babies could arrive around March 10… all 4 of them!
Petra (63% Finn 37% Babydoll)

Petra is Heliana’s daughter and has a similar quickly-fading black to gray fleece. She is just 1 1/2 years old and this will be her first pregnancy. She had a brown brother so could be carrying the brown gene. She is quite friendly for a non-bottle lamb and I expect her to be a great mom.
She is expected to deliver 2 lambs around March 13th.
Nicolle (100% Babydoll)

Nicolle was the very last last lamb born in 2024 and was a bonus baby – not expected. Her dad was black so she could have lambs that are either black or white. I’m hoping for white for my breeding program. First time Babydoll moms usually just have one lamb.
As of 2/6 no lambs were detected. She is now in with Noah, the senior white Babydoll ram.
Noreen (100% Babydoll)

Noreen and the next young lady, Nyla, were born on a friend’s farm in April 2024. They are famously inseparable. I’m excited to have them give me some black 50/50 lambs.
Ultrasound results indicate she was bred 12/19 which is uncomfortably close to when Humphrey left. She has been with Noah since then, which would result in pure Babydoll. The appearance of the lamb will tell us for sure who Papa was. Long tail and short legs = Babydoll. Short tail and finer features = 1/2 Finn.
Nyla (100% Babydoll)

How can you not love this little bear face? She had a hard first few months but I’m hoping none of that will impact her lamb-bearing capabilities. Looking forward to lambs as cute as she is!
Single lamb detected – expected around May 20th. Papa will have been Noah = 100% Babydoll.
Oliver (69% Finn 31% Babydoll)

Oliver is much more assertive this, his second, breeding season. My observations are that he may have bred 4 of his ladies within the first 3 days they were together. Being brown, he can sire lambs of any color, depending on the ewe’s genetics. He’s a mellow dude and is promised to another flock when his job here is done.
Oliver is currently making babies at another farm. Busy guy!
Heliana (63% Finn 37% Babydoll)

Heliana has the most gorgeous gray fleece – long, soft, even, and with moderate crimp. She has borne brown as well as black lambs so either can be expected this time around. She’s a good mother – typically caring for triplets herself.
She’ll be having the nursery to herself as she is lambing later than many of the others – around March 21. Two lambs were detected.
Janelle (63% Finn 37% Babydoll)

This is Deone’s daughter and is an almost perfect replica – down to the hay-draped face! She didn’t lamb last spring but had an award winning fleece. Reserve Grand Champion at the Shepherd’s Harvest fleece competition last spring! Her twin was brown so she could be carrying brown as well as black genes. Hopefully she will be more receptive to the ram’s advances this season than she was last year.
Not so far (as of 2/6)! Now in with Sven (white ram).
Maxine (63% Finn 27% Babydoll)

Maxine had a darling mini me last spring – a great introduction to motherhood. This is the same match, so I expect similar coloring of the resulting offspring. She may have been bred her very first day with Oliver.
Only one lamb was detected, but they’ve been know to hide. Expected to arrive March 10th, plus or minus.
Madasyn (63% Finn 37% Babydoll)

Maddie is Maxine’s triplet sister but didn’t get pregnant last year. We blame that on her being a bottle baby and her resultant “attitude”. She did produce a phenomenal fleece which would have been a contender in the fleece competition if I’d had my ducks in a row and entered it. Here’s to a gentle introduction to motherhood for this lady!
…which will be late, if at all. Nothing as of February 2.
Odessa (66% Finn 35% Babydoll)

This will be Odessa’s first pregnancy. She is the daughter of Fortuosity (Tuoey) and, like her, is a bigger ewe. Her dad, brother to Maxine, has not had any of his 37 kids turn out brown so she’s not likely a carrier of brown genes.
Just one lamb was detected and it will arrive around March 13th (Friday the…). Here’s hoping it’s a lucky day.

Odyssey is daughter of Daphne, one of my all time favorite ewes. This will be her first pregnancy and she may give birth before she has a chance to see how it’s done! Babies expected to be brown.
She got right to it – bred the first day the ram joined her pen. She’s expecting 2 around March 10th.
Siri (69% Finn 31% Babydoll)

Siri is also Daphne’s daughter and sister to Odyssey (above) though one year younger. She was a twin. Siri is the only ewe lamb being bred this year. We didn’t want to set up a whole separate pen for just her and the one wether that will be staying the winter so breed her we did.
She’s starting out cautiously with one lamb due around March 13th. Update: she conceived 2 lambs but aborted them… one black and one brown.
Noah (100% Babydoll)

Noah did a good job as junior Babydoll ram last season but that didn’t translate into more ladies to service. He is son of Nina, my wonderful lead ewe who we lost this summer. Because of her outstanding genetics – conformation and wool – I have retained 3 of her daughters, which he is too closely related to to breed. He’s had no black lambs but that could also be due to his partners’ genetics.
Dixie (100% Babydoll)

Dixie has had black lambs so there is at least a possibility of black babies from this match. She’s a wonderful low-key ewe who typically produces lovely twins each pregnancy. May the fates shine on her once again this year!
Yes!!! Twins expected around March 28th. Or, it could be triplets. She’s acting lethargic which could indicate babies are sapping her resources. We are watching closely and hand feeding her grain.
Ivy (100% Babydoll)

Here’s a photo of Ivy showing her straight top line – sorry for the condition of her attire. She also typically has twins – her’s have only been white. She produces a lovely heavy fleece.
She’s expecting twins once more – due around March 28th.
Kenzie (100% Babydoll)

(old photo subject to replacement)
Kenzie is smallish but a pro at this momma thing. This will be her third pregnancy. She had a single her first and twins her second year. Her son Rupert is the junior Babydoll ram this year!
She’s holding out – no lambs detected as of 2/6.
Libby (100% Babydoll)

(old photo subject to replacement)
Libby has darker extremities than some other “white” Babydolls. Since she will be 3 at time of lambing I am hoping for twins.
…And nope, just one, expected to make it’s appearance around April 2nd.
Sven (69% Finn 31% Babydoll)

Sven was a twin to a black sister so perhaps is capable of siring black lambs. His 6 month fleece was lovely so I’m hoping for the same from his lambs. Other than Flossie he seemed a little slow off the mark – though I guess, it is the ewes’ ovulation that dictates activity.
Elly Mae (88% Finn 12% Babydoll)

Elly Mae is one of the highest % Finn of the flock. She has had both black and white lambs – even one piebald. Her lambs are some of the absolute cutest! She’s a great mom and typically keeps them all corralled.
She’s due to have 4 to manage – arriving around March 10th, or perhaps earlier.
For sale to a good home after weaning. Reduced price.
Fortuosity (69% Finn 31% Babydoll)

Tuoey has been mom to both black and white lambs including 2 sets of quads. She delivers more easily than many but needs help feeding those fourth babies. Also nice fleece – both in length and crimp.
She’s set to deliver yet another set of quads sometime around or before March 20th.
Flossie (69% Finn 31% Babydoll)

This photo of Flossie shows all aspects of her HST markings – face blaze, tail tip, and socks of white. She seems to have an uncanny ability to pass on the pattern to all of her black offspring = much cuteness! Expect an early delivery from her.
She was observed to be gestating 2 lambs, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a 3rd was hiding. I’m hoping for a black/HST ewe from her to keep.
Rupert (100% Babydoll)

(photo subject to replacement)
Rupert was my second choice of junior Babydoll ram. My first choice, after closer inspection, didn’t have as nice front legs as Rupert. His momma is black so hopefully we will have at least some black lambs, though not as many as I would like (50% chance).
Rupert has been sold to another Babydoll operation.
Dayna (100% Babydoll)

Dayna is torpedo shaped – long and low. She’s very food motivated, which is helpful in moving the flock. She gave me twins just once then resorted to singles. I think she is lazy. She’s my best chance for having black lambs. Fingers crossed!
The ultrasound found just one lamb. Shucks – I could use multiple black ewe AND ram lambs. Due around April 2nd.
Lindsey (100% Baydoll)

This pretty lady looks a lot like her mom, Nina, with dark, intelligent eyes and more open face wool (not becoming wool blind). Looking for her to up her game to twins this year. She may be able to bear black lambs – not enough data!
We’ll have two more data points! Her lambs are expected around March 28th.
Nora (100% Babydoll)

(photo subject to replacement)
If Lindsey inherited their mom’s looks, Nora inherited her personality. She’s very curious, independent, and stubborn. In other words a delightful character. This will be her first pregnancy.
During the latest ultrasounds she was found to have one lamb in utero. It is expected to make its appearance around May 7 = Rupert’s lamb.
