Lamb Names for 2017

As the ewes grow in girth – mostly from wool at this point – I’m envisioning their little lambs bouncing around the pens come late March.  This year all their names will begin with a “C” and I’m curious to know if readers of this post might have some additional options to present.  I’m needing a surplus for each gender since, from past experience, I know the sex ratio can vary considerably.  In 2014, for instance, I had 7 ewes out of 9 lambs!  (This was great for my flock growth, I might add.) I’ve listed the names I’ve come up with so far in the list below.  Some are barrowed from humans, some from plant names (surprise, surprise) and some are whimsical/nonsensical, but just sound fun.  I name the lambs in alphabetical order (mostly) and try to pair twins with the same starting letters. (I need memory aids at this point to remember who is who.) I’m expecting up to 20 lambs: 16 Babydoll and 4 3/4 Babydoll x 1/4 Finnsheep.

  1. My suggestion for a name would be “Cassandra”. I always said that if I were to be blessed with a daughter that would be her name! Love your website — and your sheep!!

  2. Awesome blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

    • Thanks for your kind words. I’m not the best person to ask. I’ve had my site for 3 years and am still just feeling my way along. I was recently told I have the wrong theme for a business, so it may be changing soon. I was willing to pay for certain support options so it’s never really free, but I’ve seen other sites taken down by spammers/hackers. I found your comment in spam folder, for instance. A librarian or advisor at university of public library may be helpful. You could probably also connect to a writers’ group on Facebook to reach others who have tried various options. Good luck!

  3. I think “Clementine” for a girl is a cute name, and “Colonel” for a boy! I’m considering Babydoll sheep for my homestead 2017 or 2018. Is it possible to visit your farm?

    • Hello, Stephanie – Thanks for the names – I love them both. Yes, You can visit me here. Hopefully midweek or the middle of Sunday works for you. I have a fragmented schedule and am off farm most Saturdays and Sunday morning and evening (I help with milking at a neighbor’s farm that day).
